Power, produced by energy, makes our lives easier and safer.

First, there was solar energy.    Plants captured energy from the sun energy and stored it in plants when were eaten by humans and other animals converting the energy stored in them into muscle power.

The discovery of how to ignite plants, wood, and animal dung to convert the energy stored in them into thermal energy started the era of carbon-based fuels.

Energy from coal sparked the industrial revolution.  Crude oil drove the transportation revolution, and natural gas, for some time a necessary evil of oil production emerged as a cleaner energy alternative to coal in producing thermal power for electrical generation.

But, no energy is “clean” and each comes with its challenges and consequences – good and bad.

In this “TOM Talk” energy expert Tom Miesner, briefly reviews the types and amounts of energy used up to 2023, and some of the emerging challenges associated with the so called “Energy Transition”.
