November 5 & 6 Pipeline Classes
November 7, 2013
November 5th and 6th was the first time PKD taught 1.5 days of the 2 day Oil and Gas Fundamentals concurrently with the 1.5 day Oil and Gas Pipelines for NonTechnical Professionals class. The 1.5 day portion of the class included the following nine topics:
- The Energy Pipeline Industry
- Equipment and Components
- Field Operations
- Pipeline Maintenance
- Regulations
- Central Control Room Operations
- Introduction to SCADA and Controls
- Introduction to Pipeline Construction
- Pipeline Economics
The Fundamentals class then covered the following 3 topics to round out the two day class:
- Introduction to Hydraulics
- Introduction to Leak Detection
- Introduction to Engineering and Design
This hybrid approach proved to be very beneficial as both the technical and nontechnical attendees were together during the less technical topics allowing them to developing more contacts and share between the groups.
The operations and engineering people then focus on the more technical aspects of the industry during the second half day without requiring those who do not need to understand the more technical aspects of the industry (financial, legal, HR, accounting, purchasing, supply chain, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and other nontechnical support professionals) to sit through topics which have less relevance for them.
Based on the success of this trial class, the concurrent teaching approach will continue to be applied. The next class is scheduled for February 11th and 12th, 2013. To request more information about upcoming classes please click here.
