Tom Miesner, a pipeline industry veteran founded Pipeline Knowledge & Development in 2004 following a 25 year career at Conoco where he served in a variety of pipeline engineering, operations, business development, strategy, and executive positions, finishing his pipeline operating career as president of the company for 7 years. During his time as president of Conoco Pipeline, Tom served on the API Pipeline General Committee, and on the Executive Board of the Association of Oil Pipelines (AOPL, now Liquid Energy Pipeline Association). At AOPL he served as both vice president and president. Tom also served as a member of many pipeline boards and management committees and was Chairman of the Explorer Pipeline Board of Directors, for three successive terms.

During the merger of Conoco and Phillips, Tom led the team that designed and implemented the combined transportation organization for the new company. Shortly after the merger, Tom took early retirement to concentrate on educating pipeline stakeholders about petroleum pipelines. He has written three books about pipelines and one about electricity, developed a video-based training series consisting of 15 lessons discussing various aspects of pipelines operations, and taught over 250 in-person and 200 video-based classes educating more than 3,000 students. Tom has served also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of LineStar, a superregional midstream service company from its formation in 2009 until its successful liquidation event in 2017. Currently, Tom is the Chairman of the Board of Swirltex, a start up company bringing novel new technology to the water purification industry.

For the balance of his pipeline career, Tom has only one goal – transfer the pipeline knowledge he acquired over the past 50 years to the next generation.  Tom continues to write books and is currently working on The Petroleum Industry, a Practical Guide which is scheduled for release in mid-2027.
